His Majesty The King
Following a review of the patronages held by the late Queen, conducted by the Royal Household, Sir Clive Alderton, Principal Private Secretary to the King and Queen, wrote to the Club on 3rd May 2024. He stated: ‘Following the thorough analysis of over one thousand organisations, I am pleased to confirm that His Majesty would be delighted to accept the Patronage of the Civil Service Club. It is my great pleasure to share this news with you, to mark the first anniversary of Their Majesties’ coronation.’
His Majesty King Charles III succeeded his mother, Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who was our founding Patron for over 70 years, continuing the Royal Patronage of the Civil Service Club. The Club was founded at the wish of Her late Majesty, and with her approval, to provide an object of general benefit to the Civil and Foreign Services and to be within reach of all.
The official portrait of His Majesty taken at Windsor Castle in 2023 by photographer Hugo Burnand is proudly hung in the Club’s Reception. The portrait shows His Majesty standing in the Grand Corridor of the royal residence wearing a Royal Navy uniform of an Admiral of the Fleet and official medals and decorations: These include Garter Collar and Sovereign’s badge and Garter Star, Thistle Star, Bath’s Sovereign badge, Order of Merit, and The Royal Victorian Order’s Royal Victorian Chain and GCVO Sash.
