Note from Hon Secretary (John Barker)
Note - This text is also in the May 2008 Newsletter which was sent to all members.
The Management Committee are most grateful to members for the response to the last Newsletter. A considerable number of Life Members, not affected by the increase in subscriptions, generously made donations. There has also been such an increase in shares taken in the 100 Club that we have now added another monthly prize of £75. These have helped, along with other measures taken, to improve the trading position although the full effects will not be clear until the end of this year. A number of members sent helpful comments which we are trying to respond to. Inevitably some were contradictory and some cannot be implemented until we invest in some new equipment. Many comments were complimentary which is, of course, encouraging but others were critical of some parts of our premises and services which ensure that we do not get complacent. We are grateful for both.
The next development we are planning is a major refurbishment of the Bar and Food Bar area, commencing at the end of July* We hope that this will be quickly followed by redecoration of the meeting rooms. Both of these projects will be designed to increase the attractiveness of the Club and then to improve further our trading position. They form a key part of the strategy that we are developing for the Club's future.
We would like to give members the opportunity to contribute to that so please write to me with any ideas you may have for the future.
What do you like or not like about the Club currently?
What would you like to see changed?
What would make you use the Club more often?
What social activities would you like to see provided?
